An era is set to come to a close at the end of the month as the popular Bogey Inn Bar and Grill, located at 6013 Glick Road in Shawnee Hills, has announced it will close its doors later this month. Commonly referred to as “The Bogey,” the upscale sports bar will cease operations following business hours on Saturday, Feb. 26.
The decision to fold up shop comes just a week after the untimely death of owner Jeff Parenteau, who passed on Jan. 31 at just 45 years old. According to a statement from the restaurant’s Facebook page, Parenteau was involved in a “tragic accident” in August that left him fighting for his life.
A GoFundMe page established to support Parenteau and his family stated he went into cardiac arrest while driving, leading to the accident.
“Due to this most unfortunate and devastating circumstance, along with many other obstacles during COVID, it has become unfeasible for us to keep the business running at the level of excellence that we are known for and what our owner would have wanted to continue,” the Facebook statement read.
The Bogey Inn had become an institution of sorts for patrons of the Professional Golfers’ Association’s annual Memorial Tournament held at nearby Muirfield Village Golf Club. Renovations to the restaurant that included a massive outdoor patio, with live music every Friday night, had also become a significant draw for customers.
The bar has been a mainstay in the area since well before it was rebranded as The Bogey Inn in association with the start of the Memorial Tournament, however. The bar dates back to the 1920s when it was called The Dam Bar, named after the nearby O’Shaughnessy Dam that was finished in 1922.
Parenteau, or “Bogey Jeff,” as he was affectionately known, took ownership of the Bogey Inn in 2011. Born in Michigan City, Indiana, Parenteau moved to Dublin as a child and was a graduate of Dublin Coffman High School. In addition to owning The Bogey Inn, he started Imperial Renovations & Designs, which specializes in home and building remodeling.
“Thank you for your support and patronage over our many years of business, especially the last two years of COVID,” the social media post went on to state. “We hope to see everyone stop in within the next few weeks to honor Jeff and The Bogey and enjoy one last delicious meal with us!”
