Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Real Estate Management in the Department of Real Estate and Construction (Ref. 515416), to commence on 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.  The post will be on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Department of Real Estate and Construction (REC) enjoys a world-class reputation for its research and teaching in real estate development and management.  It runs long-established, highly successful, and competitive professional education programmes, with alumni holding senior positions in the public and private sectors.  Its academic staff has a broad spectrum of expertise, covering virtually every aspect of land, construction, real estate, and conservation, with a growing interest in digital technologies and data analytics.  Being a part of the Faculty of Architecture, REC contributes to the world ranking of 14th under the QS University Subject Rankings 2021 in Built Environment.  Its research quality is ranked 1st in the Built Environment panel according to the Hong Kong Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2020.  Information about REC can be viewed at http://www.arch.hku.hk/rec/.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Real Estate or related field, with a track record of research in real estate management, economics or finance.  The appointee will teach a course on real estate and asset management, other courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervise research postgraduate students, contribute actively to research and knowledge exchange, and perform service/administrative responsibilities as appropriate.

The appointee will also be expected to develop his/her research in the context of HKUrbanLabs, the research platform of the Faculty of Architecture (FoA), and as appropriate, the three HKU research institutes that FoA is actively helping to develop (Institute for Data Science, Urban Systems Institute and Climate Change, and Carbon Neutral Institute).  HKUrbanLabs draw together the research and outreach energies of scholars of architecture, conservation, construction management, housing, landscape, planning, real estate, surveying, transport, urban design, urban economics and urban studies.  These HKU Institutes are centrally funded cross-faculty research clusters offering exciting opportunities for collaborative research and funding. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
