Ripon may upgrade water meters to latest 4G/5G tech for $228,140

The Ripon City Council will consider approving the purchase of endpoint telemetry devices for all water meters within the City of Ripon from Badger Meter, Inc. when they meet tonight

That was part of the Water Meter Installation Project from 2015.

Elected leaders, during the 6 p.m. open session in the Council Chambers, 259 N. Wilma Ave., are scheduled to discuss updating the technology as existing towers move to the newer LTE (4G / 5G) standards. The endpoint devices installed back then — an estimated 4,000 — were for the latest technology consisting of the 3G cellular network.

Cost is about $228,140 paid via the Water Enterprise Capital Fund.

Other items on the agenda include:

  • A resolution for future City Council members to consider an open and transparent process on finding the most qualified individual when filling a vacancy on the seat.
  • Appointing Steve Stevenson to Seat No. 3 on the Ripon Planning Commission and Jeff Veilleux to Seat No. 6 as an alternate to the commission.
  • Approve the contract with Dirt Dynasty, Inc, to repair asphalt in various locations around town where excavation have occured to make repairs to underground utilities and potholes.
