Inclusivity in building designs highlighted

Building designs should enable facilities to be more accessible and help ease mobility for everybody including those with developmental disabilities such as autism and aspergers.

This was highlighted by Ar Mumtazah Mustajab during a seminar organised by the PUJA Architect Division and PUJA Academy Sdn Bhd (PASB) recently.

Over 30 participants comprising PUJA members, government officers, academia from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, and professionals from the construction industry attended the seminar. Ar Mumtazah Mustajab is the principal architect at Mumtazah Architect and Managing Director of ArchiSphere Sdn Bhd in Malaysia that specialises on special needs designs.

She shared her experiences on universal or inclusive designs in practice and delivered a paper on Univer-sal Design: In Reality.

The seminar is a follow-up to a virtual seminar by PUJA Academy Sdn Bhd, which explored the importance of inclusivity in terms of building designs making them more disabled-friendly.
