Fruita Teen Auctioneer Earns Real Estate License

LOMA, Colo. (KREX)–Thomas “T.C.” Johnston has been an auctioneer for three years now, and as of last month, he’s also a licensed realtor in the State of Colorado.

And by the way; he’s only 18.

Johnston began his journey at age 15 when he earned a scholarship from a family friend, John Clatworthy, to attend World-Wide Auction School. “He’s the youngest licensed realtor/auctioneer in the State of Colorado.” says Clatworthy. Today was Johnston’s first real estate auction–a 1.75 acre commercial property in Loma, CO.

Johnston seems to enjoy it, too. “It’s really just fun, that’s the best way I can put it. I just enjoy doing it–getting up in front of people. It was scary at first but I’ve started to really enjoy it,” says Johnston. Although real estate auctions aren’t necessarily commonplace in today’s world, Clatworthy says auctions are the best way to gauge the true value of property.

For a recent high school graduate, it seems Johnston has already closed the deal on his future. He tells me though, for him this is only the beginning.
