Envista names Donna Friis head of construction practice

Envista Forensics, a Chicago-headquartered forensic engineering and consulting firm, has promoted Donna Friis to leader of its construction practice. She is based in Orlando.

Friis will oversee a practice that provides consulting in construction accident investigation, defects, disputes, scheduling, and expert witness services, as well as builder’s risk losses, building consulting, and building forensics. She will also provide mentorship and technical oversight internally.

Friis has more than 25 years of experience in structural engineering design and forensics. She has extensive experience analyzing structural problems and failures and has expertise in technical design standards for commonly used building materials, construction processes, and building codes.

“Donna is a highly respected construction defect expert within the industry and has demonstrated that she’s a thought leader as well, authoring and presenting on hot topics and emerging trends impacting the industry,” said Terence Kadlec, director, specialty practices, Envista Forensics.  “I firmly believe that Donna embodies the technical acumen and interpersonal qualities that will elevate Envista’s construction practice to best serve our clients, colleagues, and the industry as a whole.”

Friis has been at Envista for the last three years, joining the firm’s construction practice as a senior engineer and being promoted to principal consultant in 2021.

Before that, she spent two years at JS Held as a senior engineer and area manager. Friis spent the first 20 years of her career at CDM Smith, where she was latterly a principal structural engineer.

She has a master’s degree in structural engineering and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Central Florida. Friis was nominated for the 2022 National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Women in Construction Award and recently won Technical Contributor of the Year from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) East Central Branch.

“I am honored to be given this opportunity to take the reins of Envista’s Construction Practice and am excited to collaborate with Envista’s experts coast-to-coast and internationally as we engage on larger, more complex projects,” said Friis.  “I am also excited to work more closely with our clients that entrust us to provide industry-leading expertise on all things construction related.”

Envista delivers services in failure analysis, fire and explosion investigations, digital forensics, building and construction consulting, and damage evaluations, among other areas. The firm has 600 consultants in more than 30 offices across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, and works with leading companies in the legal, insurance, and risk management industries.

Envista recently announced the creation of a new in-house materials science lab.
