HANOVER — On Monday, Dartmouth College is scheduled to launch a series of successive Monday evening meetings to solicit community “input gathering” on the plan to build apartment-style student housing on the west side of Lyme Road, north of downtown Hanover.

Each of the meetings will begin at 6 p.m. in Oopik Auditorium, in the Class of 1978 Life Sciences Center. In addition to the in-person session, people may participate in the meeting remotely, Dartmouth announced Wednesday.

Representatives from the architectural teams at Ayers Saint Gross and Michaels Student Living are expected to join Dartmouth Executive Vice President Rick Mills and Vice President for Campus Services Josh Keniston at the July 11 session to preview and answer questions about the project.

The first session will provide an overview of the project, how it fits into Dartmouth’s long-term planning, the residential design and green space connections. A significant portion of the meeting will be dedicated to community feedback, offering attendees an opportunity to share ideas on how to refine the proposal.

Four additional topic-specific sessions are scheduled on subsequent Mondays this month and in August. The topic of the July 25 meeting is building design and materials; Aug. 1 is programming and student experience; Aug. 8 is green and public spaces; and Aug. 15 is sustainability and transportation. Additional detail is available on the North End residential project website, campus-services.dartmouth.edu/projects/projects-planning-design-phase/north-end.

Dubbed the “North End” because it is the first infrastructure expansion that Dartmouth wants to build about a mile north from the core of its main campus on the site of the former Hanover Country Club, Dartmouth initially sought to build residential housing to accommodate 400 students at Garipay Field on the east side of Lyme Road.

But the college abandoned that plan last month after nearby residents and faculty members pushed back against developing the open spaces and recreational fields, which led Dartmouth to swing the three-structure project to the west side of Lyme Road and adjacent to the Hanover Fire Department and Police Department headquarters and directly opposite the Hanover Co-op.
