Unauthorised construction on prime location; civic authority issues notice after court takes cognisance

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Builders and colonisers are reportedly manipulating the online building permission system of the Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC). They would show something else on the online map, while the reality on the ground would be different.

A similar incident has come to light in relation to a recently contructed multi-storey building on Vikram University Road. The company of late builder Sushil Jain Giria took permission by showing the front MOS leaving 12 meters in the map but left only 6.12 meters on the spot. After the court’s rebuke, now the building officer of the UMC has issued a notice to the company.

This building has been completed recently on Vikram University Marg, just near the Sharma Parisar. Ujjain’s first business park is being set-up in the four-storey building. This park has been developed by (late) Sushil JainGiria’s company MRM Vino Estate Developers Pvt Ltd. It is said that a city MLA is also a partner in this park.

The company had applied online to obtain building permission in the UMC on May 14, 2019. After some modifications, on July 14, 2020, the UMC issued the building permission. According to this, being a main road, it was necessary to leave 12 meters space in the front MOS. The construction done on this MOS was not considered to be compoundable. But the construction company left the MOS of only 6.12 meters to make maximum use of the space of the main road.

Recently, when a complaint was filed in the court, the UMC officials inspected the spot and issued a notice to the company for leaving less place than mandatory. In the notice issued in the name of the building officer, a reply has been sought within two days. The company has been warned that in case of an unsatisfactory answer the building construction permit could be cancelled.
