Steven Larson Obituary (2022) – Madison, WI

Steven Kyle Larson

Oct. 5, 1954 – Feb. 17, 2022

MADISON – Steven Kyle Larson passed away peacefully February 17, 2022 at his home in Madison due to complications from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was born on October 5, 1954 in Omaha NE, son of Patricia and William Larson. He leaves behind his brother Chris Larson, sister-in-law Mary Ann Watjen, niece Hayley Larson, wife Elizabeth (Beth) Walsh, and former wife Tibi Light.

Steve moved to Madison from his hometown of Omaha NE in 1972. He attended UW-Madison and in 1980 earned a BS in Art. In 1989, his commitment to craftmanship and creative design led to the formation of Architectural Building Arts, a residential design and remodeling company. For many years, he shared with his clients the hard but rewarding process of creative transformation. Steve valued healing through massage therapy, acupuncture and energy work, and in 2000 he designed the Quarry Arts building especially for those activities. In 2015 Steve retired and turned his attention to Richland County where he and his wife Beth built a house and committed themselves to caring for the land.

Steve traveled often, but a few places truly nurtured his spirit. He spent extended time in Hawaii and delighted in body-surfing the waves off Big Island. He fully embraced the culture of Aloha. He was also nourished by the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains, hiking or snowshoeing the trails near Estes Park for many years.

Steve was easy to like, and clients and acquaintances often became lasting friends. He loved bringing people together and hosted many fun gatherings. Steve will be remembered fondly for his playful nature, easy laugh and most of all, his generous spirit.

A gathering will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 from 4:00–6:00 pm, with a time of sharing at 5:30 pm, at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave, Madison.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wisconsin River Alliance, an organization helping to protect and restore Wisconsin’s waters, wisconsinrivers.orgonate.
