Pacific Northwest law firm Lane Powell added three attorneys to its Seattle office: Aaron Johnson, Jonathan Schirmer and Avin S. Singh. Johnson, counsel to the firm on the Tax team, joins Lane Powell from PwC, where he worked as a tax manager. Johnson represents U.S. and international businesses in state and local tax matters including tax controversies, tax planning and structuring tax-efficient transactions. Johnson is currently an adjunct professor at Seattle Pacific University and an affiliate instructor for the University of Washington. Schirmer joins the firm from Ahlers Cressman & Sleight as an associate on the Commercial Litigation and Construction teams. Schirmer has represented property owners, general contractors, subcontractors, developers and design professionals on complex public and private matters. He is admitted to practice in Washington and Alaska. Singh joins the firm from Cozen O’Connor as an associate on the Commercial Litigation and Construction teams. He is an experienced litigator who counsels on common and complex commercial, construction, product liability, property damage and general tort matters involving state as well as federal laws and regulations. He is admitted to practice in Washington and Hawaii.

Natural Systems Design (NSD) promoted Colin Riordan to project scientist and Nic Truscott to senior engineer. New additions to the firm’s staff include Lisa Remlinger as operations lead, and Kim Smith as marketing coordinator. Riordan joined NSD in 2015 and in his early days led field efforts and data analysis for the BPA and RCO effectiveness monitoring efforts. Since that time, he’s expanded his capabilities to include GIS and spatial analysis, habitat suitability analysis, riparian ecology, and wetlands work. Truscott joined NSD in 2017 and has spent much of his time advancing stream and logjam engineering designs with the Bureau of Reclamation, Chelan County, and more recently with Skagit County, Lummi Tribe and Nooksack Tribe. Remlinger has more than 16 years of experience overseeing programs and initiatives in support of natural resources, clean water and climate programs. She has extensive experience with policy development and has advanced community forests, endangered species conservation plans, forest carbon projects and clean energy siting guidelines. Smith brings more than 25 years of experience in marketing, business development and event management for the AEC and technology sectors. She has managed, written and edited numerous winning proposals for such firms as Tetra Tech/KCM, INCA Engineers, Black & Veatch and the former CH2M Hill. NSD, founded in 2003, is a team of scientists, engineers and planners. It has over 45 employees in its Seattle, Bellingham and Port Angeles offices.

GGLO announced eight staff promotions. Danielle Stehman, Geoffrey Parks, Hannah Estrich, Harut Voskanyan, John Justham, Lexi Crates, Michael Lipko, and Whitney Lewis have all been promoted to associate. Stehman joined GGLO’s Boise office in 2020. Her work is grounded in the ongoing pursuit of sustainable urban design at all scales. Originally from the East Coast, her projects have focused on adaptive reuse of older building stock. She is particularly interested in how policy around land-use planning and housing affordability can shape a healthy diversity in our cities, while preserving our natural wilderness. Parks joined GGLO’s Boise office and has played an integral part in many of the firm’s projects in the Mountain West region. With over 25 years of experience, he has been part of a broad array of project types. Parks is a past president of AIA Central Oklahoma. He was a member of the Oklahoma City Historic Preservation Commission for seven years and currently sits on the Idaho State Historic Sites Review Board.


Since joining GGLO in 2019, Estrich has worked in model management, design documentation, detail development and material research, and has extensive experience in high-end retail and architectural hardware design. Estrich serves on GGLO’s Justice, Equity, Diversion and Inclusion (JEDI) committee, Equitable Design group and Fabrication Shop team. Voskanyan has been working in architecture for over 15 years on a number of projects ranging in typology and scale throughout California. Starting early in his career he had the opportunity to take on developing Revit standards at his past two firms.


Since joining GGLO in 2017, Justham has kept all three of GGLO’s offices running smoothly as the firm’s office administrator. Justham has years of experience in the hospitality industry and at GGLO has coordinated firm-wide events and managed daily office operations, creating positive interactions with other GGLO employees and anyone who interacts with the company’s offices. Crates has over eight years of experience. As a Wisconsin native, she earned her bachelor of science degree in architectural studies and masters of architecture from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Although the majority of her time has been spent in the Midwest, her project scope ranges from China, Canada and all throughout the United States. Crates has experience in a wide range of project types including office spaces, tall buildings, multifamily residences and senior living facilities.


Lipko hails from the Atlantic Northeast, where for over 16 years he worked on a diversity of landscape projects for civic, institutional, commercial and residential clients throughout the bioregion. Lewis has eight years of experience in multifamily and commercial markets in Washington and California. Active within AIA Seattle, she was one of the co-chairs of AIA Seattle’s Diversity Roundtable, where she worked to promote the committee locally, regionally and at a national level. Lewis is on the AIA Seattle board of directors, is the chair of the Professional Practice steering committee, is a co-chair for the Justice and Equity for Diversity and Inclusion task force, and is a member of the Urban Land Institute Pacific Northwest Affordable and Workforce Housing Council. She also serves on GGLO’s Justice, Equity, Diversion and Inclusion committee and Equitable Design group.

Swenson Say Fagét Structural Engineers (SSF) also announced eight recent promotions. Chardie Byrne was promoted to managing principal/operations. She joined SSF in 2000, was promoted to principal in 2007, and has served as a member of SSF’s management team for the past 13 years. As a managing principal, Byrne will continue working closely with fellow managing principals, Dan Say, Blaze Bresko and Ryan Reichman, providing leadership and strategic vision to SSF’s internal operations.


Zane Kanyer, PE/SE, Brett Mozden, PE, and Brian Rittereiser, PE/SE, were promoted to principal. Kanyer and Mozden joined SSF in 2004 and became associate principals in 2013. Kanyer sits on the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation board of directors, the Washington Main Street Program advisory board, and leads SSF’s newly established Central Washington office in Ellensburg. In addition to historic preservation and adaptive reuse, he also designs multifamily and affordable housing projects, commercial and retail work, and residences. Mozden leads the firm’s workload and staffing processes and has been on the SSF management team since 2016. He teams with many of Seattle’s premier residential architects on new and renovation projects of all sizes, averaging 95 single-family home projects per year. He also provides structural design for retail and restaurant projects, commercial office, and public work. Rittereiser joined SSF in 2013 and became an associate principal in 2017. A member of the management team since 2020, Rittereiser primarily focuses on multifamily, retail, hospitality and office projects along the West Coast. Current projects are located in Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue, Portland and the Bay Area.


Evin Gibson, PE/SE, associate principal, and Sean Johnson, PE/SE, senior project manager, were both promoted to technical leads. They join Principal/Technical Director Greg Coons, PE, to provide additional guidance and tools for the entire SSF technical staff. Gibson joined SSF in 2008, became an associate principal in 2018, and a technical lead in 2021. Gibson works extensively with Dogwood Industries on rapidly deployable building installations throughout the United States (155 projects over the past nine years), with McDowell Pile King on foundation piling and shoring wall design (88 projects over the past nine years), and on a variety of multifamily and mixed-use buildings. Johnson joined SSF in 2013, was promoted to project manager in 2018, and was promoted to senior project manager and technical lead in 2021. Johnson’s primary focus is on commercial office projects for high-tech clients in the greater Seattle region, and multifamily projects including market rate, senior and affordable housing. Currently he is working on a new luxury resort in Chelan, the new Kincaid Avenue mixed-use project in Sumner, and multiple tenant improvement projects for tech sector clients.


Mat Johnson, PE, was promoted to senior project manager. Johnson joined SSF in 2014 and was promoted to project manager in 2018. Since 2008, Johnson has designed structures for a wide range of project types. Currently, he is working on homes in Seattle, Cle Elum, Clyde Hill, Bellevue and Bainbridge Island. Sarah Wondrasek, PE/SE, was promoted to project manager. Wondrasek joined SSF in 2018. With 12 years of engineering experience, Wondrasek has designed single-family residences, mixed-use, educational, commercial office and public projects. Current projects include the 2607 Second Ave. office building renovation, the Meridian School renovation in Seattle, several restaurant tenant improvement projects, and an assortment of single-family homes.

Alaska Communications has formed the Alaska Communications Advisory Board to bring community and customer perspectives to guide decision making. Alaska Communications, an affiliate of ATN International, is the leading provider of advanced broadband and managed IT services for businesses and consumers in Alaska. The company operates a statewide data network connecting Alaska to the contiguous United States. Inaugural members of the advisory board include: David Karp, chairperson, senior vice president and managing director of Alaska, Saltchuk; Denali Kemppel, general counsel, Hilcorp Alaska; David Eisenberg, management consultant and mediator; Lisa Herbert, vice president, public relations, Usibelli Coal Mine; and John Wanamaker, president, McKinley Alaska Private Investment. Together with the board of directors and management, the advisory board will evaluate the needs of Alaska businesses and consumers, identify new opportunities, be the eyes and ears in the community, serve as ambassadors for Alaska Communications, support business development, and create dialog with community members and business and political leaders.

In Whatcom County, Tiger Construction of Everson acquired Pearson Construction of Bellingham. A news release from Tiger says the acquisition expands Tiger’s services into the private construction market, including both residential and commercial sectors. For several decades, Pearson has specialized in high-end private residences. Tiger has two divisions: civil and highway construction; and commercial, industrial and institutional building construction. All employees from both firms continue to focus on commercial, industrial, health care, public works and custom home projects throughout the state. Scott Isenhart retains his role as president. “The addition of Pearson Construction strengthens Tiger’s presence across the region as we continue to execute our growth strategy,” Isenhart said. “Tiger and Pearson share common values and we believe that our combined culture will result in an exceptional experience for our employees, clients and other professional partners.”
