Saudi Arabia is building The Line, a huge “invisible” mirrored skyscraper

Saudi Arabia recently unveiled the plans for their newest skyscraper project, The Line, and it sounds like something straight out of a Marvel movie

At first glance, it might be hard to even spot the huge skyscraper. With a completely mirrored exterior, the walls reflect the surrounding desert to create the illusion of the building not being there. Think the “invisible” mirrored container hotels in Singapore from a while back, but on a much, much larger scale.

The building will be huge, spanning 170km across the desert, and hen completed, the linear skyscraper will be 500m tall, and 200m wide. (For scale, Singapore is 50km long, so this one building alone is more than three times the length of our country!) It already sounds super impressive — and we haven’t even gotten to the interiors yet.

The building is going to be a skyscraper megacity housing nine million residents, with schools, public parks, homes, and workplaces all contained within. The advanced skyscraper will also have leisure facilities such as boat rides and ski slopes, as well as a railway that will bring you from one end of the megacity to the other within 20 minutes.

With hanging gardens, high-speed railways, and advanced facilities layered one atop another, the huge skyscraper city has been compared to Wakanda from Black Panther and the Death Star from Star Wars — and we can definitely see why.

A city filled with technological marvels and lush greenery, hidden within an invisible exterior? Definitely sounds like Wakanda.

Plans for the building designs were recently revealed by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman, and while there are some doubts about whether the project is actually feasible, we’ll just have to wait and see to find out.

If they do manage to succeed though, it’ll certainly be a sight to behold — and one more place to add to your travel bucket list.
