Home & Outdoor Living Expo at Dow Diamond this weekend


New Venue, New Name & New Time. That’s the phrase promoting the Home & Outdoor Living Expo this weekend, April 30-May 1, at Dow Diamond in Midland. The expo is being presented by the Home Builders Association of Midland County.  Their annual event used to be called the Home & Garden Show. It was held for several years on the campus of Northwood University during the school’s spring break in early March.
Kimberly Sylvester is the Executive Officer of the Home Builders Association of Midland County.
Kimberly Sylvester, is the Executive Officer of the HBA. She explains the changes, “We decided on moving venues and we thought of getting outside in warmer weather, maybe we’d get more attendees and have more outdoor vendors.” The event is also returning after a year’s absence due to COVID-19.   

The expo will have over 100 exhibitors from several categories including builders, remodelers, trade industry partners, electricians, roofing, landscape, kitchen & bath, flooring, banks, and credit unions.  They’ll exhibit both inside and outside the main concourse. Up on the top floor, the suite level, nonprofits and small local businesses will be featured including Aviator Cookie and local bakeries. Sylvester says, “We thought we would support them. Let’s give them an opportunity with thousands of people coming through the door.”

The expo will be held on Saturday from 9am-6pm and on Sunday from 11am-4pm. The event sponsors are Horizon Bank and Laurence Smith Window & Door. The support sponsor is Consumers Energy. The admission fee is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, veterans and children, ages 17 and under are free. Food concessions will be available.  Guests should enter from Dow Diamond’s east parking lot. Look for the signs. There will be parking lot attendants. The expo features hourly giveaways of prizes provided by the exhibitors. One guest will win the use of a suite for 20 at a Great Lakes Loons game with a $500 gift card.

Dow Diamond is the site of this year’s Home & Outdoor Living Expo.Sunday is Family Fun Day from Noon-3pm. Children will be able to participate in STEM activities on the suite level in Lasorda’s Landing. At 1:30pm, down on the field, kids can run the bases with the Loons mascot, Lou E. Loon, and Sammy Spirit, the mascot of the Saginaw Spirit hockey team.

The Home Builders Association of Midland County was formed in 1962. Sylvester says, “We have about 190 members. The mission is to advocate for the residential building/remodeling industry for the mutual benefit of our members, homeowners and the community.”

Sylvester is pleased to report their members are really busy right now.  Her husband is a builder. If you’re thinking about starting a project, she says, “People should plan ahead.”
