Hackney Design Awards winners and commendations
Winners:
Taylor Court, Chatto Court & Willmott Court, Frampton Park Estate, by Henley Hale Brown Architects – exquisitely detailed housing blocks exemplifying a sensitive and nuanced approach to estate densification.
Yorkton Workshops, by Tom Lloyd, Luke Pearson & Cassion Castle (Climate Change & Sustainability Award Winner) – a former stables block stripped back and improved, showing quality in design, delivery and construction.
16 Chart Street, by Ian Chalk Architects – an inventive re-use of a former furniture warehouse with exposed steel trusses, a new rooftop, and side extensions in sustainable CLT construction.
Museum of the Home, by Wright & Wright Architect (Heritage & Restoration Award Winner) – a restructuring of the existing museum, substantially increasing the available exhibition space, improving access and introducing sensitive new additions enhancing the experience for museum-goers.
208 Cassland Road (People’s Choice Award Winner) – a single family house built on a tight site at the edge of Victoria Park Conservation Area. The house is designed to mediate between the adjacent Victorian terrace and the large villas behind it.
Commendations:
Graphic House, by Office S&M Architects – an unassuming Edwardian terrace with a simple plan concealing an interior of joy, fun and surprises. Natural light is strategically harnessed so that light, colours, patterns, subtle reflections and textures awaken the spaces and the senses.
Britannia Leisure Centre, by Faulkner Brown Architects – a generous space for citizens to gather and enjoy leisure and recreation, displaying a commitment to inclusivity with large swimming pools, fitness suites and sport courts, and access to a wide range of amenities.
Springfield Park Restoration Project, by PRS Architects (Commendation for Heritage Rescue) – a sensitive restoration of a charming villa and its park setting, maintaining its historic character and providing it with a sustainable future.
