Patna: State building construction minister Ashok Choudhary on Saturday stressed on the need of giving autonomy to colleges for their all-round development and improving further academic ambience on the college campuses. “The need of the hour is to improve Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in the state which is 14.5%. Thus, all possible efforts should be made to bring it upto 30% so that it could come upto the national average which is 27%,” he said.
He was speaking at a function organised to unveil the bust size statutes of former Patna mayor K N Sahay and former Rajya Sabha member Shankar Dayal Singh, on the B D College campus here on Saturday. Sahay and Singh were the president and secretary, respectively, of the then B D Evening College governing body till conversion of the college into a constituent unit in 1986.
Former Rajya Sabha member Rabindra Kishore Sinha, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said the college should promote organic farming and set up labs for it on priority.
“At a time when environment pollution is making life difficult to live, organic farming will give us relief to live a healthy life,” he said.
Patliputra University VC Prof R K Singh said the university must focus on research-oriented work in each college and sought help from the state government in getting possession of the land allotted to the university way back in 2019 at Mithapur.
Founder principal of the college, Prof N K Srivastava, dwelt at length upon history of the college development and lauded contributions of Sahay and Singh in nurturing academic activities in the college. Earlier, the college principal Prof Pravin Kumar welcomed the guests.
