FBI warns of spike in online rental, real estate scams in Massachusetts

whether you’re looking for *** vacation rental or *** new place to live. The FBI has *** warning to both renters and owners beware. They say rental scams are on the rise and there are some red flags you need to know about. The FBI says, scammers will sometimes send *** check for more money than the agreed rental price, then ask the property owner to send back the extra cash, only to have the check bounds and leave the owner on the hook for the loss. Other times, they say scammers will advertise *** place online, but it’s actually *** fake posting copied from *** real property website to renters at the money they sent when it comes to red flags. The FBI says, someone unwilling to meet in person can be *** big one coming up with every excuse in the book as to why they won’t meet you or an emergency always pops up to prevent that face to face meeting that should raise *** red flag as well. Certainly you want to be as judicious as you can before you send your hard earned money off to some of these potential scammers, The FBI encourages people to do their research, check online property records and take *** look for any online reviews. The FBI says, if you do fall victim to the scam, the best thing to do is contact both your bank and the FBI as quickly as possible, saying that would give agents the best chance at catching the scammer in Chelsea.
