Czech co Witkowitz mulls building 521 mln euro unit in Bosnia’s Gacko TPP


SARAJEVO (Bosnia and Herzegovina), August 18 (SeeNews) – Czech mechanical engineering solutions provider Witkowitz is considering investing 521 million euro ($529.5 million) in the construction of a 350 MWh replacement block in Bosnia’s Gacko coal-fired power plant, Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Serb Republic said on Thursday.

The company is expected to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the entity for the project before starting the activities for its implementation, the entity’s government said in a statement.

The new unit will include technology aimed at lowering the emission of harmful gasses during the energy production process, the statement read.

The Gacko power plant, operated by coal mining and energy company RiTE Gacko, is one of the two coal-fired power plants operating in the Serb Republic. The other plant is part of the Ugljevik coal mining and power generation company located in northeastern Bosnia.

The Serb Republic is one of the two entities that form Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is the Federation.
