Benito Ortiz Obituary – The Pueblo Chieftain


Benito Ortiz, 81, passed away April 23, 2022, in Pueblo, Colo. He was born Aug. 2, 1940, in Costilla, N.M., to Rudolfo and Viola Ortiz who precedde him in death; along with in-laws, Prudencio and Belinda Chacon; siblings, Frank Ortiz, Felipe Ortiz, Dale Ortiz, Kenny Ortiz, Juan Ortiz, Ruth Manzanares, Elaine Ortiz and Lorraine Ortiz. Benito had an associates degree from PCC in Building Construction and retired from the CF & I Steel Mill. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, old cars, spending time with his children, spoiling his grandchildren and exercising at PAC. He was an Hermano de la Morada de Garcia Colorado, and a member of Southern Colorado Social Club. Benito leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 60 years, Celia (Chacon) Ortiz; children, Johnnie (LouAnn) Ortiz, Diana (George) Vasquez, Rosita (Mark) Gonzales and Loretta (Allen) Cruz; eight grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Michael Ortiz, Tomasita (Charlie) Padilla, Hazel (Harlen) Martinez, Joann Lucero and Theresa Cordova; numerous other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
